"Professor Robert Winston, of Imperial College London, [a leading fertility expert] said a person cannot change sex, 'because it is embedded in genes in every cell in the body'."
This day in Herstory: Margaret Alice Murray (13 July 1863 – 13 November 1963) was an Anglo-Indian Egyptologist, archaeologist, anthropologist, historian, and folklorist. The first woman to be appointed as a lecturer in archaeology in the United Kingdom, she worked at University College London (UCL) from 1898 to 1935. She served as President of the Folklore Society from 1953 to 1955 and published widely over the course of her career. (more)
UK - “Twitter Hates Women”: Feminist Suspended After Challenging Trans Activist
From REDUXX (USA)
By Lavy Shwan
July 13, 2022
Women’s rights advocates on Twitter are outraged after a UK-based feminist was permanently suspended for challenging a trans activist who called women “psychotic” for advocating for single-sex spaces.
On July 12, Aja, a popular British feminist and poet, found herself permanently banned from the Twitter platform after what she believes was a targeted “mass report” campaign against a benign tweet she had made in response to a trans activist.

US - We Must Go on Offense against Transanity
We have to confront gender ideologues for what they are.
From National Review (USA)
July 13, 2022
It’s not often that Senator Josh Hawley gets criticized for not “going hard enough” in a Senate hearing. But this column will be one of those rare times. …
There was nothing wrong with how Hawley approached Professor Bridges, and quite a bit right about it. Hawley was widely praised after the exchange by Sohrab Ahmari, Ryan Anderson, and many others for keeping his cool. But ultimately, this exchange demonstrated the seriousness of the challenge gender ideology poses, and the insufficiency of just asking the right questions and waiting for people to laugh this belief system off the stage. ... read full article
US - The Washington Post doesn't think only women can get pregnant
From Washington Examiner (USA)
By Zachary Faria
July 13, 2022
The Washington Post’s coverage of the exchange between Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and a law professor shows how gender ideology has utterly broken establishment media.
Hawley and University of California, Berkeley professor Khiara Bridges went viral over an exchange during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday. Bridges referred to “people with the capacity for pregnancy,” a long-winded way of saying “women,” as Hawley pointed out. But Bridges insisted that “trans men” and “nonbinary people” also can get pregnant. She then accused Hawley of transphobia and violence against transgender people and tried to tie his comments to the transgender suicide rate. ... read full article
US - 'Pregnant men' are just part of the Left's Orwellian nonsense
From Washington Examiner (USA)
By Quin Hillyer
July 13, 2022
The cultural Left’s obsessive attempts to redefine the word “woman,” and, indeed, to destroy the concept of women entirely, aren’t merely sops to the apparently fragile feelings of “transgender” people. Instead, they are part of a deliberate mission to bastardize language in service of radical ideology.
My colleague Zachary Faria deftly excoriated a July 12 Washington Post ideological rant posing as a news story about a Capitol Hill exchange related to fringe transgender ideology. In a hearing, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) drew ire from a radical California professor for asserting, reasonably enough, that only women can get pregnant, something every child knows. ... read full article

Parent groups reacted as a Pennsylvania school district became the first in the commonwealth to vote on a policy requiring student athletes to compete on teams corresponding with their sex at birth.

US - The Incessant Attacks on J.K. Rowling Have to Stop
From Newsweek (USA)
By LULU SINCLAIR, COUNSELLOR AND PSYCHOTHERAPIST
July 13, 2022
The trolling of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has got to stop. She has a right to her opinion and it's time to leave her alone.
I say this with legal certainty after last week's U.K. court ruling in favor of Maya Forstater, a woman who lost her job for saying that "men cannot change into women" and "that sex is a biological fact, and is immutable." That ruling sets in stone our right to say what we believe. ... read full article

US - Co-parenting with the government?
From The Hill (USA)
By SCOTT ALTMAN
July 13, 2022
No one wants to “co-parent with the government,” but many are comfortable with the government restricting other parents’ bad decisions. We see this in perennial fights over book banning, public school curricula, and, recently, the treatment of LGBTQ children. In a time of rising political division, we need to find common ground for the sake of our vulnerable kids.
Take two examples. Last week, the Alabama Attorney General cited the Supreme Court’s abortion precedent to support its criminal ban on gender-affirming health services to children. Similar supportive therapy bans have been challenged as harmful, scientifically unsound, and violating parental rights. ... read full article

I recently Tweeted my thoughts about how I felt that gender dysphoria was a real condition that affected a very small number of people. (But I said it’d be nice if we could exist in a world where “transsexual wasn’t a taboo word, no one thought trans women were LITERALLY the same as women, and gender identity wasn’t forced on everyone.”)
This Tweet seemed to encourage a lot of dialogue—particularly from a few people who experience or have experienced gender dysphoria. ... read full article

Last month I traveled to New York City where I was honored to receive the “Heroes of Intellectual Freedom Award” from the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA). This award recognizes my efforts to combat the harms of the destructive ideology that now runs rampant in the Smith College community. More importantly, it was the first time the award was given to a non-academic. …
This ideology has now gone on to infect every corner and every crack of our society. It is now attacking, in vicious earnestness, the load bearing pillars of our culture: Art, religion, sports, comedy, the workplace, and K-12 education. We find it in the most banal and seemingly non-political of spaces: the boy scouts, the shrink’s couch, the local library. It has even found its way into the most intimate spheres of life: our marriages, our children and even our bedrooms. ... read full article

UK - The Tories are right to take on trans ideology
Women’s sex-based rights are not a trivial concern.
From Spiked (UK)

July 13, 2022
Perhaps the most striking aspect of the Conservative leadership contest so far is the dominance of the trans issue. Where a candidate stands on this question could well prove to be a dealbreaker.
Just one Tory candidate has openly dismissed the gender-identity debate as unimportant, and he is now out of the race. When interviewed on Sky News a few days ago, transport secretary Grant Shapps dodged the gender issue. ‘I just don’t think we need to get caught up in some US-style debate and an almost aggressive war on these issues’, he said. ‘It’s just not necessary.’ Shapps has since pulled out of the race to back Rishi Sunak. ... read full article

Danish comedian Sofie Hagen, one of the founding members of The Guilty Feminist podcast, announced in 2019 that she was “non-binary,” giving as reasons that people in comedy paid a lot of attention to her sex, which felt wrong, and that wearing trousers “felt so right.” In societies that value males more, and that give opportunities to males that are not given to females, is it any surprise that women and girls would come to dis-identify with femaleness in this way, and identify more with maleness? …

A couple of years ago, I had a short-lived relationship with a failed philosophy academic.
