US - DeSantis: Doctors Should Be Sued Over Kids' Gender 'Disfigure' Operations
From Newsweek (USA)
By MATTHEW IMPELLI
August 3, 2022
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on Wednesday that doctors in the state who "disfigure" children with gender dysphoria through operations should be sued; meanwhile, others are saying that gender-affirming care is necessary and beneficial.
During a press conference, DeSantis spoke about young children who receive "gender affirming care," and said, "they don't tell you what that is...they are actually giving very young girls double mastectomies, they want to castrate these young boys."
DeSantis continued, "That's wrong and so we've stood up and said both from the health and children wellbeing perspective, you don't disfigure 10, 12, 13-year-old kids based on gender dysphoria. Eighty percent of it resolves anyways by the time they get older...I think these doctors need to get sued for what's happening." ... read full article

By Andreia Nobre
August 3, 2022
A Democrat state senator, Kevin Parker (NY), lectured a female constituent, “Rebecca” (not her real name) that male criminals claiming they’re trans are not “men with ill intentions.” The statement came in a written response to a letter that Rebecca wrote, urging the politician to vote “no” on bill NY S51002.
According to Women’s Declaration International (WDI) USA, the bill would “enshrine and protect so-called 'gender identity' into all areas of public life in New York State.”
The bill was passed on July 1st, 2022, and days later, WDI USA sent signatories a call for an action campaign to write to politicians. Rebecca, who recently had to be “redistricted'' to Senator Parker's district, had a personal reason for opposing the bill. ... read full article

Civility has drastically decreased since the pandemic started — or so more than two-thirds of Americans believe. And 85% think the American public is deeply divided.
Fortunately, these respondents overstate the depth of our divisions. While the loudest voices often preach discord, most Americans share many beliefs and want to escape the toxic politics tearing us apart at the seams.
Regardless of race, class and gender, Americans want to pursue their dreams free from outside interference. Most people don’t expect government handouts but do want equal opportunities and to be treated with dignity. ... read full article

In a video posted on social media, Gabbard said despite the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) warning that gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists—also referred to by many as puberty blockers—can cause serious health risks for children, the Biden/Harris administration continues the advocacy of what it describes as “gender-affirming health care,” which gives children easy access to sex change treatments. ... read full article

Canada - Trans is an identity issue for everybody
From gender:hacked by Eliza Mondegreen (Canada)

Something I’m wary of: Identity comes into this for everybody. Where you land on gender identity is about what kind of person you are. So, if you’re a “good progressive,” there’s a lens you’re supposed to apply and the same goes if you’re a skeptic (the real kind, not the Atheism+ kind) or a contrarian or a heterodox thinker.
I think a lot about certain friends and how our paths that traveled long distances side-by-side diverged so sharply. Questions of identity seem to me to be at the very root of that divergence. ... read full article

The conditions that have led to the closure of the Tavistock and its Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) in the UK were created in large part by a preceding grassroots movement. The movement is comprised of dissenting parents, detransitioners, academics, medical professionals, Tavistock whistleblowers and gender-critical feminists. Their warnings culminated in the interim report by paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, which found that the Tavistock’s model of care was ‘not safe’ for children. ... read full article

The terms trans and cis are of course central in gender ideology. It may come as a surprise that the term trans was barely used in the Yogyakarta Principles (Yogyakarta Principles), and the term cis never used. Neither of them has much of a history in international legal texts then, however they are being used more and more and this is evident in the work done by the SOGI Independent Expert. The literature on this is by now immense (it is evident that the quantity of research on a topic is in no way indicative of the importance of the topic per se, but only on how popular and fashionable it is considered in academic circles). ... read full article

We do not usually cover first-instance employment tribunal judgments on this blog, but two cases handed down in the last three weeks – Forstater v. CGD Europe and Bailey v. Stonewall Equality Ltd and Garden Court Chambers – have attracted so much attention that we feel an exception must be made. Both cases involved women with ‘gender critical’ beliefs who faced hostility in their workplaces after expressing them. Both succeeded in their claims of direct discrimination and victimisation on grounds of belief under the Equality Act 2010. Although neither of the cases sets a binding precedent for other courts or tribunals, they contain interesting legal analysis and comment about the importance of freedom of expression and freedom of belief in the context of work which is of wider significance. ... read full article

I have been thinking this week about privilege.
A common myth about privilege is that it is somehow related to class or money. But the truth is that a black millionaire is lower on the privilege hierarchy than the most destitute of white males. If Oprah Winfrey were to kick a white orphan boy in the face, she would still be the one being oppressed. In fact, the orphan would owe her an apology. ... read full article
