"It’s a web of cruel lies and a mass delusion that’s being peddled for profit and politics. And it is unpopular and often unwise to say so out loud."
This day in Herstory: Laura Jane Addams (September 6, 1860 – May 21, 1935) was an American settlement activist, reformer, social worker, sociologist, public administrator, and author. She was an important leader in the history of social work and women's suffrage in the United States and advocated for world peace. She co-founded Chicago's Hull House, one of America's most famous settlement houses. In 1910, Addams was awarded an honorary Master of Arts degree from Yale University, becoming the first woman to receive an honorary degree from the school. In 1920, she was a co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
In 1931, she became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and is recognized as the founder of the social work profession in the United States. She was a radical pragmatist and the first woman "public philosopher" in the United States. In the Progressive Era, when presidents such as Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson identified themselves as reformers and social activists, Addams was one of the most prominent reformers. She helped America address and focus on issues that were of concern to mothers, such as the needs of children, local public health, and world peace. In her essay "Utilization of Women in City Government", Addams noted the connection between the workings of government and the household, stating that many departments of government, such as sanitation and the schooling of children, could be traced back to traditional women's roles in the private sphere. When Addams died in 1935, she was the best-known female public figure in the United States. (more)
It’s a modern tragedy that part of this amazing woman’s legacy, the ACLU, is now working to destroy so much that she wanted to protect. - Ed.
US - Where Have All the Folksingers Gone?
From Elizabeth Hummel (USA)
By Elizabeth Hummel
September 6, 2022
“Where are the feminists?” bellow the right-wing anti-woke blokes on Fox News, speaking of the silence of “feminists” in the debates around gender ideology.
As anyone in this fight knows, feminists have been in the trenches fighting the harms to women and girls from gender ideology for decades. Radical feminists and lesbians have been the ill-fated Cassandras warning of certain doom as society ignores them, as the media prevents their voices from reaching the mainstream. And the doom is unfolding, not just to women and girls, but to boys and young men too, infected by a viral mythology that people can change their biological sex and other anti-scientific nonsense. It’s a web of cruel lies and a mass delusion that’s being peddled for profit and politics. And it is unpopular and often unwise to say so out loud. … read full article

Posh private schools in New York City curated reading lists that promote radical gender ideology to kindergartners, according to reading lists compiled by National Review.
Nightingale-Bamford, an all-girls school where annual tuition is $59,000, promotes books that explicitly highlight gender transitions and LGBT pride parades to kindergarteners. The school’s library promotes “Pride Puppy,” a book about a dog lost at a gay pride parade; “Julian Is A Mermaid,” a book about a young boy dressing in fairy-tale drag; and “When Aidan Became A Brother,” which tells the story of a transgender child. … read full article
US - Biden admin's Title IX changes subject to backlash in public comments
Public comments on the docket "Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance" are up to nearly 350,000.
From The Post Millennial (USA)
By Libby Emmons
September 6, 2022
The Biden administration has proposed changes to Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that would conflate gender identity with biological sex, and require that protections for women be expanded to protect those who identify as women despite being biologically male. The comments period is open for these proposed changes, and the public appears to be roundly opposed.
Public comments on the docket "Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance" are up to nearly 350,000. The proposed regulations are already causing turmoil in states that prohibit biological males from playing in women's sports or using women's facilities, regardless of their gender identity. … read full article
US - Veronica's Paramount Problem
It was no surprise Trevor Noah didn't call out Veronica Ivy's lies about transwomen in sport. Comedy Central's owners, Paramount, were the perfect mark for a master of deception.

September 6, 2022
There was something about Trevor Noah’s interview of Veronica Ivy in July about transwomen in sport that’s been bothering me ever since. How did Ivy manage to get such a free pass? Now, looking back at the interview again it’s clear it’s a masterclass in the techniques used by the trans lobby to neuter and bully critics and the press in particular.
The techniques include distraction, fallacious logic, nuggets of factual information that are stripped of their wider, more truthful context, and the odd sucker punch of a ludicrously outrageous claim that puts interviewers on the back foot. … read full article
US - Here’s 3 Things Parents Should Know Heading Into The School Year
From Daily Caller (USA)
By Amy Carney
September 6, 2022
As students head back into classrooms across America, parents must armor themselves and their sons and daughters with more than new backpacks and No. 2 pencils.
Parents used to be able to send their children off to the local public schools and trust that the adults in charge of their son or daughter’s education had their best interest at heart. Fast forward to today with all the problems facing our public education system — moms and dads should no longer blindly send their K-12 students off to any school without first educating themselves on what is happening in their local classrooms.

Title IX, the federal law enacted to combat discrimination based on gender just recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Enacted in 1972 Title IX of the Education Amendments protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX states:
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Perhaps best known for its application to ensure that females receive equal footing with male counterparts when it comes to athletics in public schools, Title IX also addresses discrimination when it comes to recruitment, admissions, counseling. financial assistance, sex-based harassment and assault, treatment of pregnant and parenting students, treatment of LGBTQI+ students, discipline, single-sex education, and employment. … read full article

At my house, we started the holiday weekend by going out to eat Friday evening. Our favorite spot was packed and we sat outside, waiting for a table. We were minding our own business and my wife was enforcing her “no politics for the next three days” policy. Specifically, if I mentioned Joe Biden’s speech one more time, I would be sleeping in the backyard. So we were casting about for topics that would not elicit a lecture from yours truly when a couple came walking up to the door. One of them appeared to be in the midst of a gender transition. I saw him/her and thought, “whatever.” These people are not even unique at this point, anyway.
My wife, however, got the distinct feeling that she was being stared at. As it turned out, this person was staring daggers at her. My wife characterized it as a challenging gaze, almost as if he/she/whatever was trying to see if they could get a reaction. She felt the person in question was daring her to say something, anything, or even look askance. My wife was smart enough not to take the bait. … read full article
The Cooptation of Detransition
Let detransitioners speak so we can learn from them. Please.

By Lisa Selin Davis
September 6, 2022
Chloe Cole was 12 when she began to identify as transgender, 13 when she went on testosterone, 15 when she had a double mastectomy and 16 when she realized she regretted her transition and returned to identifying as her natal sex. Online, she found the word “detransitioner” to describe this new identity, a word she’d never heard, a possibility she’d never been told existed. Detransition—returning to live as your natal sex after medical transition—the common narrative goes, is “very rare,” so rare, no clinician mentioned it to Cole. Once she detransitioned, Cole began to speak out, to warn other young girls who were uncomfortable in their bodies—in their lives, in their minds—that removing their breasts and making permanent bodily changes through testosterone is not always the direct path to happiness TikTok promises it to be. … read full article

Recently we published True Believer, the account of a mother who unknowingly led her young son into a trans identity…and back out of it. This may be the most important first person account we’ve published. Behind the scenes, the author agonized over allowing us to tell her story for weeks after our initial contact. She knew the backlash she would receive. We put it on hold when she got cold feet, and ultimately released it when she agreed that her story was too important not to tell, despite the personal risk. We are immensely grateful to her for agreeing to tell her story to all of you. … read full article

September, 2022
The trouble with JK Rowling is that she has done nothing wrong. Back in 2020, she wrote a carefully worded, compassionate piece about sex and gender. It’s here if you want to read it.
In it, she described “a climate of fear that serves nobody – least of all trans youth – well”. At no point did she express the even mildest disapproval of gender non-conformity, let alone call for “trans genocide”. “Trans people,” she wrote, “need and deserve protection […] I feel nothing but empathy and solidarity with trans women who’ve been abused by men.” … read full article

As many academics have learned in recent years, any expression of skepticism in regard to trans activism can now have negative career implications. Female academics such as Oxford University professor Selina Todd, former Edinburgh University rector Ann Henderson, and former Sussex University philosophy professor Kathleen Stock have discovered that even one’s physical safety—not just emotional and psychological wellbeing—can be put at risk if one challenges the extraordinary (as I see it) idea that self-defined gender identity must supersede biological sex in all spheres of policy.
The scope of the academic taboo surrounding this issue is something I’ve had the chance to observe personally. While it is widely known that my 2021 termination by Mount Royal University (MRU) in Canada was connected to my expressions of dissent on Indigenous issues, I also was targeted for my objection to “progressive” gender dogmas. … read full article

For young men, adolescence has always been a difficult time. I remember it well. The insecurity. The awkwardness. The peer pressure. Looking back, though, there’s one thing I’m profoundly grateful for.
At least in my day we didn’t have to know what a polyamorous pansexual AFAB was.
Today’s young men have no such luck. I’ve just been reading the agony uncle page on the website of Men’s Health, the world’s biggest men’s magazine. On August 21, Lesbians United released our bombshell report on GnRH agonists, the drugs now sold as “puberty blockers.” In writing this report, we consulted over 300 sources, most of which were peer-reviewed scientific studies. These studies are the “TQ+” lobby’s smoking gun: proof that not only do GnRH agonists have serious and sometimes life-threatening side effects, but that the evidence for these side effects already exists, and that the doctors, pharmacists, and psychologists who are colluding to provide these drugs to adolescents under the rubric of “gender dysphoria” have no excuse for not knowing what they’re doing. … read full article

We truly live in tricky times. Many of us woke up one day, went to work and found ourselves in a situation where we are ‘asked’ to affirm things we know not to be true should we wish to remain in employment.
There is a list of pre-approved opinions on the issue of gender and any deviation from scripture is to be met with the total destruction of one’s reputation and livelihood. That is the deal we are being offered by those whose ideology was born 5 minutes ago and should rightly be considered a form of gender flat-earthism. … read full article

I just finished Caelainn Hogan’s Republic of Shame: How Ireland Punished ‘Fallen Women’ and Their Children. I picked up the book because of my interest in women, pregnancy, and shame, and because I’ve been thinking a lot about how institutions and societies reckon—or avoid reckoning—with serious wrongs.
Republic of Shame is a thorough excavation of how girls and women became ‘penitents’ and ‘offenders,’ how babies became commodities on an unregulated adoption market, and how the unholy marriage of moral authority and state power turned Ireland into the “shame-industrial complex.” Without the power of the state, the shame-industrial complex could never have ranged so widely across Irish society. Without the moral authority of the Church, the shame-industrial complex could never have justified itself. (“It was all right to beat the Devil out of us. That justified some cruelty.”) … read full article
