US - How Americans view policy proposals on transgender and gender identity issues, and where such policies exist
From Pew Research Center (USA)

September 15, 2022
In recent years, many states have considered or enacted policies related to people who are transgender. On a couple of these measures, there is some agreement among Americans, but views of other policies are more divided, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.
Overall, just 8% of Americans say they are following news about bills recently proposed by several states related to people who are transgender either extremely or very closely, according to the survey, which was conducted May 16-22 among 10,188 U.S. adults. About two-thirds (68%) say they are following news about these bills a little or not at all closely. … read full article

US - Ohio Board of Education introduces resolution to oppose Biden Title IX changes
From The Hill (USA)
By BROOKE MIGDON
September 15, 2022
The State Board of Education of Ohio will likely discuss a resolution to reject proposed changes to Title IX that would expand protections for transgender students at an upcoming meeting.
The resolution would task the state superintendent of public instruction with sending a letter to state school leaders telling them to ignore changes to Title IX that were proposed by the Biden administration in June.
The resolution also asks the state legislature to pass a measure to bar transgender students from using the restroom or locker room or playing on school sports teams consistent with their gender identity.
Ohio’s State Board of Education has proposed a resolution that seeks to reject “coercive” and “burdensome” federal education policies proposed by the Biden administration that are inclusive of transgender identities.
The resolution, introduced this month by board member Brendan Shea, pushes back against the idea that a person’s sex is assigned to them at birth. It argues that there are “immutable” differences between males and females and “the reality of biological sex can no more be altered than can the reality that two plus two equals four.” … read full article

US - Olympic Pride Doesn’t Want You To See What They’re Promoting to Children
From Port Townsend Free Press (USA)
By Jim Scarantino
September 14, 2022
Covering its tracks, lawyering up. Olympic Pride got a lawyer to demand that Port Townsend Free Press remove photos showing its interactions with children. The lawyer said it was about copyright. But the same images have also been removed from Olympic Pride’s own website and social media. What was in those photos they don’t want you to see?
Ana Wolpin’s The Dark Underbelly of the Trans Movement: What is Olympic Pride Promoting? prompted the scrubbing and lawyering up. Wolpin’s article took a close look at how Olympic Pride is sexualizing children and promoting transgenderism to kids. That means moving children towards macabre mutilations and a lifetime of taking hormones that can harm their brain development, cause abnormally low bone density and induce severe depression and suicidal ideation. The FDA recently issued a warning that puberty blockers in minors can cause brain swelling and loss of vision. The damage caused to minors by puberty blockers is no longer considered reversible — bad news arriving too late for many young and middle-aged adults. … read full article
Women’s rights has become cause for riots | Letter to the editor
From The Leader (USA)

September 15, 2022
I reject the Aug. 24 Leader headline of an anti-trans protest. I was invited to speak at a permitted event on Aug 15. Clashes, attacks, and public endangerment were not on the part of attendees.
Police Chief Olson issued a permit for this event. He had several conversations with Amy Sousa, the organizer, to assure that the police were informed early and often of the nature of this event.
There were no anti-trans speakers or promoters nor were any attendees, many elderly, involved with “mosh pit” skirmishes. This event was peaceful, in support of women’s human rights, for the well being of women and children. Once again, to speak publicly for the rights of women and children, the right to privacy and safety, has become a cause for riots and assaults on women. … read full article

US - Marshall leads 19-AG coalition supporting IN law prohibiting boys from playing on girls’ sports teams
From The Cullman Tribune (USA)
By Staff Reports
September 15, 2022
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Attorney General Steve Marshall led a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in support of the State of Indiana’s law prohibiting boys from playing on girls’ sports teams. Indiana’s law defines sex in terms of reproductive biology rather than gender identity, and has been challenged on that basis and enjoined in federal district court.
“Indiana, like Alabama and most other states, determines the sex of an individual, including students, by their biology,” said Marshall. “This definition has long served as the basis for state and federal laws protecting the rights of those individuals, in particular female students. Yet, this biologically-based, time-tested—and eminently legal—view of sex is now being upended by those who seek to undermine this standard through gender ideology. But defining sex based on sex protects the rights of girls to fair competition in sports, and I am proud to take the side of Indiana in opposing this attack on common sense.” … read full article

I write this as a call to all the silent moderates out there. Now is our time! Before one more word is changed to be “inclusive”, to be “neutral.” There is no neutrality in this insidious linguistic sleight-of-hand. The language slights are an attack on the family. It strips the population of the language needed to speak to the intimacy of our relationships. Afterall, it is relationships that humans really live for. SNP MP John Nicolson was bristling as he stared across the courtroom at barrister Karon Monaghan KC, counsel for the LGB Alliance. ‘I know what a lesbian is’, he told the court on Tuesday. Monaghan somewhat drily replied: ‘I take nothing for granted.’ This is because Nicolson, deputy chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT+ Rights, believes that straight men ought to be accepted as gay women if that is how they identify.
This was just one of many barmy yet bitter exchanges from the ongoing Mermaids v Charity Commission and LGB Alliance tribunal, which began on 9 September and is due to close on Friday. Nicolson had been called on as an expert witness on behalf of trans-youth charity Mermaids. … read full article

Wales - Burning currents of homophobia: Then and now

September 15, 2022
It’s funny. As a teenager and young man I was always adamant I would never end up living in the Welsh valleys. I grew up here and it always seemed boring, quiet, never anything going on. When I realised my sexual orientation there also saw the burning undercurrent of homophobia. I wanted to live somewhere much more exciting and much more accepting of gay people.
I started going to gay clubs in Cardiff when I was 16. I am sure I looked underage (and could never get into any other clubs) but I think it was just accepted and allowed that underage boys could come in. Of course, I wasn’t that naïve, and a friend of mine at college (a ‘sixth form’ college for those of you unfamiliar with the concept; it was not part of a school nor was there a uniform but you could take A-Levels there) had a harsh and cruel encounter with the darker side of this culture, when he woke up in a dark room above one of the clubs after a night out. He had been drugged and abused. … read full article
Scotland - Witchcraft Convictions (Pardons) Bill
From For Women Scotland
September 15, 2022
The following is our submission on 15 September 2022 to the consultation on the proposed Witchcraft Convictions (Pardons) (Scotland) Bill.
We are pleased to see that the paper recognises that historical attitudes which gave rise to the witch hunts are not, wholly, in the past. However, the admirable aim of combating misogyny in contemporary society will not be achieved unless the Scottish Government and other pillars of establishment Scotland are prepared to address uncomfortable parallels in their recent approaches to women’s rights nor that some of the structural issues which made the Scottish witch hunts some of the fiercest anywhere in Europe outside the Holy Roman Empire are also pertinent today.
The uncomfortable truth is that it may be easier for the Scottish Government to focus on women who are safely dead and were persecuted long ago than those who are demonised today. As such, we believe that it is instructive to refer to contemporary parallels. Thankfully, the bloody and brutal excesses of the witch hunts are in the past, but women are still persecuted and demonised in modern Scotland. … read full article

Health researchers in Canada, and elsewhere, are facing more and more pressure to be politically correct. Those who care about science — and depend on it to inform our health-care system — should be concerned.
The pressure to infuse progressive politics into scientific research is coming from science journals and funding agencies. They are exerting influence by changing publishing guidelines and adjusting research funding policies to favour progressive views. Such measures are inappropriate because they violate academic freedom and are fundamentally unscientific. … read full article

Green parties have become a significant political force in many Western nations and sub-national jurisdictions. While “Green”-branded platforms vary from one part of the world to the next, they all typically draw in heterodox left-of-centre political figures who trumpet ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, and social justice through non-violent means. In some nations, such as Finland, Germany, Ireland, and Austria, Greens have gained cabinet representation and membership in ruling coalitions. In Latvia, Green politicians have even served as prime minister and head of state.
One might think that Canada, a country whose progressive ranks have long exhibited strong environmentalist tendencies, would feature prominently in the Green movement. … read full article

You can remove, add, transplant and modify all you want... even heads... but it doesn't change the original organism. It's like remodeling your trailer. It's still a trailer underneath all the accoutrements. As a scientist who loves technology, I understand the urge to push technological boundaries. But, you know, just because you can do something doesn't mean it's a good idea... Oh, well.
