"The Tavistock has been accused of rushing teenagers into life-altering treatment on hormone-blocking drugs. The trust could now be sued by patients who felt they did not receive the right treatment."
This day in Herstory: Lucy Burns, born July 28, 1879 (died December 22, 1966), was an American suffragist and women's rights advocate.[1] She was a passionate activist in the United States and the United Kingdom, who joined the militant suffragettes. Burns was a close friend of Alice Paul, and together they ultimately formed the National Woman's Party. (more)
Ed. Note: For the second day in a row, GC News will link to multiple articles on another major breakthrough for sanity in the fight against the damage done by gender ideology.
Today, we learned that Tavistock will be shut down due to its damaging treatment of children over many years. To call this step monumental is an understatement.
Let Kemi’s tweet say it -
The US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand must now account for their support of similar violations. Mutilating children at the behest of a superstitious ideology must be STOPPED.
UK - Tavistock child gender clinic forced to close over safety fears
The gender identity development service at the Tavistock Centre will close next spring with treatment being referred to Great Ormond Street, Alder Hey in Liverpool and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital

A controversial NHS clinic that led the way in prescribing puberty blockers to children who questioned their gender is being shut down.
The gender identity development service at Tavistock & Portman NHS trust will close next spring after a review found that it was not a “safe or viable long-term option”.
The clinic in north London has been accused of rushing teenagers into life-altering treatment on hormone-blocking drugs. Legal experts said the trust could now be sued by patients who felt they did not receive the right treatment. ... read full article

Groupthink and a particular ideology about gender identity led to vulnerable people being given life-changing medication at Tavistock Clinic

I am very glad to hear that NHS England is to take on board all of the recommendations of the Cass Report and “decommission” the Tavistock Clinic, or GIDS as it is known (Tavistock’s Gender Identity Development Service).
This is not because I don’t care about young people with gender dysphoria. Quite the opposite, I care very much. For many years now, some staff at the Tavistock have been concerned about what has been going on there; from putting young people on puberty blockers (which almost inevitably leads to cross-sex hormones) at a very young age to the staggering change in the kinds of young people seeking treatment. ... read full article
UK - Why the Tavistock clinic had to be shut down
This is a child welfare issue
From The Spectator (UK)
By James Kirkup
July 28, 2022
There are many reasons why what is sometimes crudely called ‘the trans issue’ is important. One is the political failure that left the legitimate views of many women (and men) ignored by decision-making individuals and bodies, who instead prioritised the views of interest groups and campaigners. Another is the multiple failures of governance that have seen numerous public bodies fail to deal properly and responsibly with questions of real public interest, because of their enthusiasm to follow the subjective agenda of interest groups rather than amass and act on objective evidence.
Simply put, organisations that are supposed to make decisions on the basis of facts have sometimes chosen to proceed on the basis of feelings and claims. Wishful thinking has come before harsh reality. Individuals who have questioned such things have sometimes been discouraged and even punished by organisations that priortise adherence to the campaigners’ agenda above the public interest. ... read full article

The damage done is immeasurable. No one knows how years of ideological dogma, inappropriate treatment and a culpable failure to consider the overall mental welfare of the children treated by the Tavistock Clinic will affect the thousands referred to its Gender Identity Development Service. Yesterday the government thankfully brought the scandal to a swift halt. In the wake of a devastating report in March on the clinic’s reckless prescription of puberty blockers, ministers have shut it down altogether. Treatment of children questioning their gender identity will now be handled instead by established and respected regional children’s hospitals. ... read full article

The announcement that the gender identity service at Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust (GIDS) has been ordered to close by next spring is a massive relief. Following a review that found that it failed vulnerable under-18s (as evidenced in the Cass Report, an update to which was published today), its imminent closure is yet another example of how children have been sacrificed at the altar of transgender ideology. ... read full article
UK - Entry 7 – Research
From The Cass Review (UK)
By Hilary Cass
July 28, 2022
Last week I sent a letter to NHS England, expanding on the advice in my interim report, and giving more detail about the proposed new regionalised model of care for children and young people questioning their gender identity or experiencing gender related distress. I recognise that it will take time before the staff and structures of the proposed regional services are in place. More immediately, I know that NHS England is setting in place interim arrangements to ensure the continuity and safety of current services.
NHS England also asked for advice on how to address the gaps in the evidence base that were flagged in my interim report, and I want to say a little more about that here.
I have explained previously the three components of the research commissioned by the Review: a comprehensive literature review focused on the questions that were set out in our terms of reference from NHS England; a qualitative study to understand more about the experiences of service users, parents and carers, and professionals, including young adults up to age 30; and a quantitative study to try and fill some of the gaps in follow-up data for the approximately 9,000 young people who have been through the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), many of whom are now adults. ... read full article

Like a lot of women, I grew up a tomboy. Climbing trees, playing sports; to me, boys were cool, girls were boring. But, by early puberty, the other tomboys seemed to be growing out of these preferences. I wasn’t.
The boys and girls of my class began asking each other out, trading handmade Valentine’s cards. I wasn’t excluded – I had been asked out by all the popular boys – but I wasn’t interested. I couldn’t understand their fascination with one another. As for their fascination with me, I was repulsed by it. ... read full article

Ed. Note: America’s “Paper of Record” deigned to report that the Tavistock is getting shut down. Good. But notice how the gaslighting continues: “In the United States, doctors specializing in gender care for adolescents have mixed feelings about the reforms in Europe. Although many agree that more comprehensive health care for transgender youth is badly needed, as are more studies of the treatments, they worry that the changes will fuel the growing political movement in some states to ban such care entirely.” As if that’s obviously such a Bad Thing. If mutilating children for no good medical reason is actually malpractice, as seems obvious, then maybe those states opposing it are on the right side of history.
UK - England Overhauls Medical Care for Transgender Youth
The National Health Service is closing England’s sole youth gender clinic, which had been criticized for long wait times and inadequate services.

The National Health Service in England announced on Thursday that it was shutting down the country’s only youth gender clinic in favor of a more distributed and comprehensive network of medical care for adolescents seeking hormones and other gender treatments. …
The overhaul of services for transgender young people in England is part of a notable shift in medical practice across some European countries with nationalized health care systems. Some doctors there are concerned about the increase in numbers as well as the dearth of data on long-term safety and outcomes of medical transitions.

From gender:hacked by Eliza Mondegreen (Canada)

July 28, 2022
“Dynamic desires for gender-affirming medical interventions” sure is a ballsy way to refer to medical harm, regret, and detransition.
Gender clinicians really, really, really don't want to talk about medical harm, regret, and detransition. Better to talk about “gender fluidity” or “gender journeys”— “journeys” that may include stunting normal development with unknown consequences or removing healthy organs. And, most importantly, "journeys" that could not and should not have been prevented by gender clinicians. ... read full article
I’m not sure if the victory celebration for the closing of Tavistock is premature? Several stories I’ve come across mention something about the clinic closing only to be replaced with smaller regional clinics. The ideological capture it not going away anytime soon so won’t this move just INCREASE access to these harmful medical interventions?
