This day in Herstory: Martha Jane Cannary, born May 1, 1852 (died August 1, 1903), better known as Calamity Jane, was an American frontierswoman, sharpshooter, and raconteur. In addition to many exploits, she was known for being an acquaintance of Wild Bill Hickok. Late in her life, she appeared in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show and at the 1901 Pan-American Exposition. She is said to have exhibited compassion to others, especially to the sick and needy. This facet of her character contrasted with her daredevil ways and helped to make her a noted frontier figure. She was also known for her habit of wearing men's attire. (more)
Abigail Shrier: Taking on the trans lobby has made me Public Enemy

The American journalist gained notoriety for writing on a disturbing ‘gender identity’ war in the US – and warns it's spreading to Britain
From The Telegraph (UK)
By Zoe Strimpel
April 30, 2022
It was 2019 when Abigail Shrier, the American journalist, first raised the alarm in an article for the Wall Street Journal about the harm the promotion of trans ideology was doing to young people, and particularly to teenage girls. The article went viral, as the problem – at least to anxious middle class parents – was beginning to feel urgent throughout liberal America.
At the time, despite statistics relating to teenage gender dysphoria every bit as terrifying as those across the pond, gender ideology was still considered a niche issue in Britain: a spat between a vocal, studenty fringe of the trans rights community, do-goody institutions like Scottish libraries and poetry programmes, and the tough-skinned feminists rolling up their sleeves to point out the madness. … read full article
Transgender Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine sparks fury by claiming ALL pediatricians agree on 'gender-affirming care' - despite doctors warning against 'chemical castration' puberty blockers that have been linked to infertility
Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine told NPR in a recent interview that 'there is no argument among medical professionals' about gender-affirming care
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, gender-affirming care includes puberty blockers and hormone therapy
Several European countries, though, have moved to ban the use of puberty blockers for children and adolescents
In Sweden, a television investigation found that 13 adolescents who were given puberty blockers started having adverse reactions
American doctors have also spoken out against the use of the medication

One of America's top health officials has come under fire for saying that all pediatricians agree on providing children and teenagers with 'gender-affirming care' - despite vocal opposition to puberty blockers from doctors over the past few years.
Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine - who is also America's highest-appointed transgender female - told NPR in a recent interview that 'there is [an] evidence-based standard of care for the evaluation and treatment of trans individuals' set by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. … read full article
EXCLUSIVE to 4W: Female Prisoners in UK Forced to Shower with Intact Males

From 4W (USA)
By Andreia Nobre
May 1, 2022
Several women have been housed with men in female prisons since government authorities have adopted policies based on self-declared gender identities. 4W spoke to three formerly incarcerated women who report censorship, intimidation, and retaliation inside UK women's facilities that now house men alongside female inmates.
On April 13, NJ News reported that at least two women became impregnated by men incarcerated in Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, the only female-only prison in the state of New Jersey. The men were placed there because they claimed to have a female gender identity. … read full article
Gillian Bowditch: To deny biological reality could do patients harm
From The Times (UK)
By Gillian Bowditch
May 1, 2022
Primum non nocere. “First, do no harm” is a principle enshrined in healthcare. But in a post-Harold Shipman world, its elegant simplicity has been eclipsed by a series of more bureaucratic, burdensome and convoluted ethical codes. In the work Of the Epidemics, which is a part of the Hippocratic Corpus, it is written: “The physician must be able to tell the antecedents, know the present, and foretell the future — must mediate these things, and have two special objects in view with regard to disease, namely to do good or to do no harm.”
But even with his foresight, Hippocrates would be amazed to find that contemporary Scottish student midwives have been routinely advised on how to deal with that unicorn of medicine: the pregnant man. … read full article
'Gender affirming' surgeon admits children who undergo transition before puberty NEVER attain sexual satisfaction
"An observation that I had, every single child who was, or adolescent, who was truly blocked at Tanner stage 2, has never experienced orgasm. I mean, it's really about zero."

May 1, 2022
At a recent talk at Duke University on "Trans & Gender Diverse Policies, Care, Practices, & Wellbeing," surgeon and "trans affirming" doctor Marci Bowers, who transitioned at the age of 38, admitted that children who undergo transition before puberty will never have adult sexual function or experience orgasm.
"An observation that I had," said Bowers, "every single child who was, or adolescent, who was truly blocked at Tanner stage 2," which is the beginning of physical development, when hormones begin their work of advancing a child to adulthood, "has never experienced orgasm. I mean, it's really about zero." … read full article
Sturgeon stands firm in row over trans rights
First minister reluctant to define ‘woman’
From The Times (UK)
By Kieran Andrews
May 2, 2022
Nicola Sturgeon has declined to define the characteristics of a woman, insisting that oversimplifying the gender debate risks harming trans people who are the “most stigmatised and discriminated against minorities in our society”.
The first minister said she would argue “until my dying breath” that there was no conflict between women’s rights and trans rights as new reforms making it easier for people to change their sex go through Holyrood.
Sir Keir Starmer, the UK Labour leader, has struggled to say whether a woman can have a penis as he argued that debates on trans rights need to be done differently. Boris Johnson, the prime minister, has said “biology” is a fundamental factor when distinguishing between a man and woman. … read full article
Letter to Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
From For Women Scotland
April 30, 2022
Nicola Sturgeon confirmed in Parliament that the Scottish Government will be disregarding the advice in the recently published Cass Review: Interim Report and NOT responding as Westminster has done, by calling for an urgent review of NHS care of gender-distressed children. Instead, Ms Sturgeon pointed to the new £9 million of funding aimed at cutting waiting lists, which will allow more children quicker access to the gender clinic – a service model which has been deemed flawed and harmful. Not only is this medically negligent, it is compounded by plans to legislate against conversion therapy which will potentially criminalise the best evidenced therapeutic practice as recommended by Dr Cass. … read full article
Yes, Randi Weingarten, this is war — we parents are fighting for our kids
From New York Post (USA)
By Karol Markowicz
May 1, 2022
Parents across the country are fighting against critical race theory, gender ideology and generally inappropriate lesson plans all while the left denies any of this is being taught at all.
A few weeks ago, parents at the Glendale Unified School District in California confronted their school board after they learned that a third-grade teacher had shown their kids videos for Gay Pride Month that included discussions of nudity and sexual arousal.
One parent had learned about the lesson and pulled her child from the class. The teacher then reached out to her school administration to see about continuing her lesson plans for two more days, and it assured her that she could in defiance of parental wishes. … read full article
The great American free-speech panic
Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has revealed how terrified the elites are of freedom of speech.
From Spiked (UK)
By Tom Slater
April 30, 2022
Freedom of speech is the ‘dread of tyrants’. That’s how Frederick Douglass, the American abolitionist, statesman and former slave, put it in his seminal 1860 speech, ‘A Plea for Freedom of Speech in Boston’ – taking aim at a racist mob who had shut down an abolitionist meeting and the authorities that had refused to protect it.
The battle lines in America’s free-speech wars are very different today, as of course are the stakes. ‘Slavery cannot tolerate free speech’, thundered Douglass. He saw open discussion as the means to liberation. Today, those who might consider themselves his heirs think you can censor your way to utopia. But one thing at least remains stubbornly the same: more than 160 years later, free speech still fills the American elites with dread. … read full article
Crossdresser Charged After Exposing Himself to Teen Girls
From REDUXX (USA)
By Genevieve Gluck

A man in England who crossdresses to satisfy a transvestic fetish targeted teenage girls for sexual harassment, flashing his genitals at them and asking for their clothing.
Andrew Keen, 41, was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on April 27 on an indecent exposure offense and two charges of causing harassment, alarm or distress.
As reported by Wiltshire 999s, Keen, while wearing women’s clothing, approached a lone 17-year-old girl outside his home on September 26, 2021. Keen then asked the girl to give him the clothes she was wearing, claiming it was for a “charity.” … read full article
The pressure to transition as effeminate gay men
Detrans male shares his experience
From magiruuvelvet
April 29, 2022
I was always very feminine as a kid, had long hair, preferred feminine clothing, my interests and mannerisms were considered “girly”. I was regularly confused as a girl in my childhood. My parents always allowed me to be myself, but society didn’t. I soon learned that not fitting into societal gender norms was inappropriate and unwelcoming. I could never relate to other boys of my age. I always preferred to hang out with girls. Other boys scared me and I shared zero interests with them.
Childhood and youth
My childhood and youth were coined by insults, bullying, and assault. It was always boys who abused me for being “too feminine” and “too girly”. “Boys don’t do that!” “Why are you not like the other boys?” I suffered from daily anxiety attacks and began to isolate myself socially. I started to be chronically online. I felt safe online, because nobody could physically abuse me there. I felt into a deep depression hole and life was becoming meaningless to me. … read full article
Neither Liberal Nor Democratic: Women with leaflets and the candidate who shook with anger

By “Terfs”, Charley means voters.
The leaflets referred to are these:
Women leafleting about their own legal rights as currently enshrined in the Equality Act. Truly terrifying stuff.
Charley Hasted is a Liberal Democrat candidate in next week’s London-wide council elections. They previously stood as a candidate in the 2019 General Election and the 2021 London Assembly election. Why our party keeps thinking Charley a suitable person to represent it I cannot fathom.
I mean really:
If a political candidate cannot cope with being exposed to viewpoints that differ from their own and only wish to represent people who think exactly the same way as they do, then electoral politics is not for them. … read full article
