Capitalizing on Stolen Childhood
From The 11th Hour (USA)
By Donovan Cleckley
June 5, 2022
You have seized, in the name of God, the
Child’s crust from famine’s dole;
You have taken the price of its body
And sung a mass for its soul!
- Voltairine de Cleyre, “The Gods and the People” (1897)
Children figure most curiously into politics and religion, filling the role of canvases for others’ desires rather than anything truly of their self-determination. A child learns that she or he cannot exist without existing for somebody else, finding herself or himself denied being in a fundamental way.
In her 2012 book Childism: Confronting Prejudice Against Children, Elisabeth Young-Bruehl observes that adults subject children to fantasy and fiction. “In narcissistic childism,” she writes, “children are blank pieces of paper on which an adult’s story is written.” They become more doll than human, more artificial than authentic in the search of “the true self” by way of aesthetics. The child becomes one who desperately seeks the validation of identity from those around her or him, lacking a sense of self. The body and mind become used to “being” in nonbeing—and the child feels lost, with childhood stolen. … read full article

Everything Wrong with the “Progress Pride Flag”
Why do lesbians hate the “progress pride flag”? The Lesbian Post counts ten reasons why.
From The Lesbian Post (USA)
By Lesbians United
June 5, 2022
1. Its chevron erases part of the rainbow. Lesbians and gay men were once publicly represented by a simple rainbow flag, designed in the 1970s by Gilbert Baker, a gay man. The original flag had eight stripes, each representing a different positive and life-affirming concept. Two colors were later dropped for legibility reasons, and due to a shortage of hot pink fabric.
Many lesbians and lesbian groups used the rainbow flag as a symbol of pride to combat the shame and ostracism that come from living in a homophobic society, and as shorthand for our pro-lesbian political positions (for same-sex marriage, equal employment, equal housing, and so on). The massive chevron of the “progress pride flag” blots out part of the rainbow—paralleling the mass erasure and re-closeting of lesbians and gay men that has taken place in recent years. … read full article

The question was “What is a woman?” and it’s both the title and subject of a film released last week by Walsh and The Daily Wire, the conservative media company founded by Jeremy Boreing and Ben Shapiro. … read full article
