Ed. Note: GC News doesn’t typically include research articles from academic journals, as we realize that, for many of our readers, those kinds of articles are too technical to be read easily. The following is an exception to that rule. It presents a strong scientific argument that, as it concludes, “Evidence for the benefits of puberty suppression must be acknowledged as slender.”
Research Article - The Dutch Protocol for Juvenile Transsexuals: Origins and Evidence
From Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy (USA)
By Michael Biggs
September 19, 2022
It has been a quarter of a century since Dutch clinicians proposed puberty suppression as an intervention for “juvenile transsexuals,” which became the international standard for treating gender dysphoria. This paper reviews the history of this intervention and scrutinizes the evidence adduced to support it. The intervention was justified by claims that it was reversible and that it was a tool for diagnosis, but these claims are increasingly implausible. The main evidence for the Dutch protocol came from a longitudinal study of 70 adolescents who had been subjected to puberty suppression followed by cross-sex hormones and surgery. Their outcomes shortly after surgery appeared positive, except for the one patient who died, but these findings rested on a small number of observations and incommensurable measures of gender dysphoria. A replication study conducted in Britain found no improvement. While some effects of puberty suppression have been carefully studied, such as on bone density, others have been ignored, like on sexual functioning. … read full article
US - With over 210K comments submitted, what did the public say about proposed Title IX changes?
The proposals received support overall from prominent educator groups, though supporters still identified areas of concern and clarification.
From K-12 Dive (USA)

September 19, 2002
The Biden administration’s Title IX proposals are one step closer to becoming regulations after a two-month comment period that began in July ended last week. The proposals would protect LGBTQ students and pregnant or lactating people from discrimination and change how sexual assault and harassment in public schools is reported, investigated and punished.
The controversial regulations garnered over 210,500 comments from lawmakers, advocacy groups, professional educator associations and individuals that the U.S. Department of Education will now parse through. The exact number is disputed, with different government website counts ranging from 210,594 to 240,085 comments.
Despite the volume of comments, it’s unlikely the Office for Civil Rights will be slowed in its efforts to issue the final rule, said Brett Sokolow, president of the Association of Title IX Administrators, or ATIXA, the primary group of Title IX professionals. … read full article
US - Gender ideology has broken the media and their so-called 'experts'
From Washington Examiner (USA)
By Zachary Faria
September 19, 2022
One thing that gender ideology has exposed is that many members of our media and their scientific “experts” do not deserve the credibility their titles typically give them.
Take Maggie Mertens’s piece in the Atlantic calling for an end to gender-segregated school sports — which, in practical terms, means an end to women's sports. Mertens writes that “though sex differences in sports show advantages for men, researchers today still don’t know how much of this to attribute to biological difference versus the lack of support provided to women athletes to reach their highest potential.”
Those “researchers” should be researching other lines of work, because science and sports evidently aren’t for them. … read full article

The APP’s initial involvement followed a commercial which targeted candidates who support drag queens in K-12 schools. On Wednesday, September 14, the Board of Education received numerous letters and messages from the public about the law, the vast majority of which were in favor of removing the requirement. … read full article
US - Parental Mental Collapse
From Parents with Inconvenient Truths about Trans (PITT) (USA)
September 19, 2022
There are now hundreds of excellent posts on the PITT substack.
As the parent of a gender questioning kid, PITT is one of my lifelines. In a society filled with people moronically chanting “trans women [men] are women” and waving what I like to call the “penis flag” (have a look at it – you’ll figure it out), the many parent stories help me to feel that I am not alone in this dystopian nightmare.
During my latest bout of “I cannot do this anymore” thoughts, I looked back over one of my favorite PITT pieces entitled “Trans: The Family Destroyer”. It was written over a year ago now. … read full article

The 2022 WPATH International conference in Montreal got off to a bizarre start Saturday evening when radical left activists rushed the stage of the far-left gathering just as Dr. Marci Bowers was introducing keynote speaker Admiral Rachel Levine of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Canada - WATCH: Trans health providers for 'littles' explain why kids should be transitioned without mental health treatment
"The pathology is not being trans; the pathology is the transphobia that the kids and their families are winding through the world with,” said Kerry McDonald, a therapist with a private practice in California. "So we're there as a mental health support if that causes really normal stress."

A consultation team of Minnesota mental health professionals that treat pre-pubescent children who have been led to believe they are transgender got together on the first full day of sessions at the 2022 WPATH conference, to discuss their experiences helping these children on their "gender journey." Dr. Rachel Levine was the keynote speaker at the conference.
In a session called "Navigating The Changing Landscape With Littles And Their Families: Exploring The Role Of Mental Health Across Different Practice Settings With Transgender And Gender Diverse Pre-Adolescent Children," they discussed the various therapeutic approaches to dealing with these children, whom they refer to as “the littles”. These "littles" are often as young as three years old. Many of them, they said, are perfectly fine and don't need mental health treatment before being socially and medically transitioned. … read full article

Philosophy - Lessons from Hannah Arendt on Arresting Our ‘Flight From Reality’
Fascism, communism, and transhumanism all lure us into rejecting the real human condition in favor of ideological constructs.
From Quillette (Australia)
By Roger Berkowitz
September 19, 2022
In 1949, when Hannah Arendt (1906–1975) went to Germany as part of the New York-based Jewish Cultural Reconstruction Commission, she was struck by the way the Germans showed an “at times vicious refusal to face and come to terms with what really happened.” This “escape from reality,” as Arendt named it, meant that the reality of the Holocaust and the death factories was spoken of as a hypothetical. And when the truth of the Holocaust was admitted, it was diminished: “The Germans did only what others are capable of doing.”
The Germans, at times, simply denied the facts of what had happened. One woman told Arendt that the “Russians had begun the war with an attack on Danzig.” What Arendt encountered was a “kind of gentleman’s agreement by which everyone has a right to his ignorance under the pretext that everyone has a right to his opinion.” The underlying assumption for such a right is the “tacit assumption that opinions really do not matter.” Opinions are just that, mere opinions. And facts, once they are reduced to opinions, also don’t matter. Taken together, this led to a “flight from reality.” …
Because an ideology “looks upon all factuality as fabricated,” it “no longer knows any reliable criterion for distinguishing truth from falsehood.” As reality recedes, ideologies organize society to transform their ideas into living reality. If antisemitism as an ideology says that all Jews are beggars without passports, the fact of wealthy and established Jews must be eliminated. If Bolshevism says that the bourgeoisie are corrupt, they must admit their corruption or be killed. The realization of such ideological realities can be accomplished, of course, through terror. … read full article
